About Us
Macdolly is a small, select kennel situated in Brisbane, Australia specialising in Solids. We have been exhibiting since 1987 and our first litter was born in 1989.
Our first litter produced two Champions and our success has continued from there. We are very proud of the success we have enjoyed in the ring. To date, we have bred 7 Best In Show winners and many Australian Champions.
Although we do not currently own all the dogs that appear on this website, all of them were either bred by us, or owned or campaigned by us, at some point in time. Their achievements have been the backbone of our success.
We extend our gratitude to all of those people who have taken a Macdolly Cocker into their hearts and homes as beloved pets - they are our real success stories. In November 2000, we ventured into Particolours with the arrival of our first blue roan bitch. We breed and exhibit particolours infrequently, choosing to concentrate on our aim to bred and exhibit quality solid bred, solid Cocker Spaniels. We do however, have a passion for the breed in all colours, and although solids have stolen our hearts, our dabbling with parti-colours will continue infrequently in the years to come. You can read more about our history here.
To my best friend Simon Briggs - what else can I say but you are AMAZING. The very best handler I know, and there is noone that can turn out a dog in any breed quite like Simon. Not only is Simon an amazing friend and support in the dog ring - he is my best friend and rock outside the show circuit. Thank you Simon for everything.
The People of Macdolly
Terri Davies is the registered owner of the kennel name Macdolly. Terri has been involved in the breed since 1987 and has enjoyed envious success at all levels in the showring. None of this success could have occured without the amazing support and friendship with several key people over the years. Terri breds, prepares and presents the dogs of Macdolly in the showrings in Brisbane, QLD. Of course, you can never take just one Cocker to a show so you will find her in the ring or ringside with the VIP's of Macdolly.
AND THE VIP's
Simon Briggs is perhaps the most established and successful show dog handler in Australia. Simon is the most amazing groomer, and ensures that all the dogs of Macdolly are presented to perfection. Simon is the handler of the world infamous Suthanlites SIberian Huskys for Cheryl LeCourt. We are very proud of our long term friendship with Simon and that he chooses to help exhibit our Cockers.
Kirri-Lee Jacobson is an upcoming Junior Handler. Just turned 16, Kirri has been exhibiting the Cockers with Terri and Simon for the past two to three years with much success. Kirri-Lee's main breed is the Siberian Husky, and alongside Simon, she exhibits the Top Winning Suthanlites Siberian's for Cheryl LeCourt. Our show team in Brisbane would not be as strong as we are, without the ongoing assistance of Kirri (and her mum Liz).
Some small thank you's:.................
Over the years many friends have come and gone, but we would like to thank Carolyn Ryan (Riangold Golden Retrievers) and Helen McCready (TukeGlen Pointers) for their endless support both in and out of the showring. Both these amazing ladies are great handlers and good friends - and have piloted many a Macdolly through in breed or group for us, and been there through all the ups and downs of dogs, dog showing and life in general.
The love of the breed also lead me to my wonderful friend, Tuija of Sheerclever Kennels in Denmark. Although our friendship has evolved mainly through emails and short telephone calls, our love of the breed and common goals, has lead us to work together. I am very proud to have been invited to be Godmother, to Andrea, the first born for Tuija and Lars, and in 2006 I travelled to Denmark for the christening and some dog shows. Our plan is for Macdolly and Sheerclever to continue to collaborate regardless of the distance involved, to continue to produce solid bred Cocker Spaniels.
Margaret, Kate and Amy, Benita, Gwynne, Tina, Julie, Noel and Gill, Katie and Frank, Paul and Belinda, Angel, Denise, amd Chelsea - each of you have played a part in our continued success. We thank you for sharing our love of the breed and our dogs.
And of course, Helen and Annie, Sue, Debbie and Scott, Vicki, Louise, Ronda and Gwen - our wonderful friends. Each has touched our hearts in different ways but we thank them all.
Dedication
Not a day goes by when I dont think of my Dad, Jim Hodgson, who began this crazy foray into the dog shows and breeding with me. Many people will remember him as a very proud man, whose dog 'Boomer' was the light of his life, and he always expected him to win. The next great love of his life was our gold boy, Jack, and 'his girl' Flatsey, and he could be seen walking the streets of Albany Creek each morning, training these three show dogs, exercising them and swimming them in the local creek. Dad stepped into the showring once (and won Reserve CC) but it was all the behind the scenes work that he did - the training, the exercising and a lot of the grooming in the early days. A lot of the driving to country shows, where he took great pleasure in seeing his dogs being winners. Dad also whelped and raised all our litters. Along with my mum, Edwina, they became very good puppy rearers, dog washers, blow dryers and trainers. Macdolly would never have come so far without the endless support from Dad (who has now passed away - rest his soul) and Mum who still continues to come to the occasional show and moves in with us whenever we have a litter - we couldn't do it without her. Thank you Mum and Dad for everything.
